The unknown life of plants

Capturing the subtle movements of plants with the help of cinemagraphs, I created "The unknown life of plants" project, for an urban greening company in Singapore, called Greenology.

Greenology wishes to create awareness through social media about the benefits of plants, greenery in general and how important is to understand that nature and human society are not separate things. Company's strong desire is to make known the plant species from their diverse plant palette, successfully used on their main proprietary product which is known as Greenology Vertical Greenery, being familiar to the rest of us as a vertical garden or living wall.

Greenology's mission is to transform urban spaces into living, thriving habitats and sustainable ecosystems.

The project is intended to create awareness and bring into light interesting facts about the life of plants to people who are not trained horticulturists or botanists, hence the name of the project "The unknown life of plants".

Most of the plants featured in this project are tropical and subtropical species.

The project will be continuously updated.
Anthurium andreanum - The heart-shaped flower of Anthuriums is really a spathe or a waxy, modified leaf flaring out from the base of a fleshy spadix where the tiny real flowers grow.
In the NASA Clean Air Study, Anthurium andreanum can remove from your household harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, xylene, toluene, ammonia.
Nepenthes x hookeriana var. 'spotted' - the modified leaf of a pitcher plant represents an adaptation to nutrient-poor soils.
Philodendron scandens - With an average of 60mm of rain per year, plants have adaptations that enable them to shed water efficiently. The leaves of many rainforest plants have drip tips for this purpose. Philodendron is no exception, having the tip of the leaf elongated allowing rain drops flow smoothly.
Monstera obliqua - The holes in the leaves stop them being ripped by strong winds in the upper canopy. They also let rain pass through more quickly and allow more light to reach leaves below.
